Problems to overcome



Some of my actors were busy on days so wasn't able to shoot. To overcome this i planned a production schedule to fit in the actors schedules and be able to have enough time to shoot my video in suitable time slot.

When uploading the music video, it got copyrighted I decided to combat this by embedding the video and sending it off separately.

I wanted to shoot my shots with the three actors together but i felt like ti subverted from my main idea and would take up too much time in the 3 mins allocated time for the music video.

For my website i wanted to have the navigation centre scroll down with the page but was unable to do this due to on the website construction site WIX.

Evaluation

Media Language 

 Media language was successfully included in my media products. Todorov's theory of equilibrium is present in my music video. There are five stages the narrative can progress through. A state of equilibrium (All is as it should be), this occurs when the two friends meet before they get into the car. A disruption of that order by an event, this occurs in my video when the female actor comes into their lives. A recognition that the disorder has occurred, this is when the fight occurs from the two friends. An attempt to repair the damage of the disruption, occurs near the end when the friend meet bump into each other.  A return or restoration of a NEW equilibrium, this occurs in my video  when the two friend goes off with their arms around each other. There is some elements of Barthes enigma code within my video. I wanted to have a classic music video that portrays more of a story. So i used shots consisting of wide and mid but my video was slow paced and had the elements of surprise of whats gonna happen next with the two friends.  Therefore also conforming to Barthes ball of string narrative. The slow pace builds suspense and tension within the narrative. 
In my music video i included a few intertexual links the main one being the classic titanic scene, i included this within my music video with my two friends to have a comedic relief. This also conforms the genre hybridity theory of Neale's. But by having this intertexual link it will entice the audience as they will become engrossed in the video. The other inter-textual link is more subtle but was more significant as it showed friendship between the two characters it was from a scene in Shawshank redemption where one friend is looking up to another. 


Media Representations

I addressed media representation by having both a representation of male and female in the video. The narrative in my story end with boy the male friends chasing the female friend, this conforms to Van Zoonen as the female is presented as a spectacle the two friends almost challenge each other to date her. Thus ending their friendship. Through mise-en-scene due to costume and makeup the actors wearing normal clothing and conforming to the glistening generalities. I also represented different ethnicity in my video. This helped further boost the representations in my media product. However, to improve i could have included a wider range of ethnicity and more female actors to balance the gender ratio. Despite this i successfully portrayed gender, age and different ethnic groups within my video and web page.


Media Industry

In my thorough research I had an idea of how successful music videos are made and how many of them conform to a mixed genre of performance or narrative. I included this by applying more then one type of genre in my music video to accentuate the hybridity (Neale's) . I stuck to my original plan and shot my music video as a narrative telling a story of a friendship and how it came to end. However, i still subverted to some ideas from my storyboards due to certain restrictions but still was able to produce a video of high standards.
Also, i included a strong brand identity throughout all my products. I achieved this by adding my own logo on each of the platforms i produced. This will give audiences an instant link between the product and to the brand.

Media Audience

My target audience for my music video is aged between 15-25 and in the socio economic group C1-A. I feel like that i was successful in reaching my target audience. The actors and actresses that featured in my music video are people who fit in that age range they are all aged between 15-25. As well the clothing my actors/actresses were wearing was appealing to that young audience, i made sure to include tracksuits, jackets. As well the props I used would be interesting for the young audience I used a car to attract the younger audience. However, I appealed to the C1-A audience in few different ways, during the flashbacks i had my actors wear smart clothing to represent them in a more upper class way of life. As well the location for the first scene is set in London and this accentuates the C1-A target audience. In my website I targeted the young audience by linking social media accounts and the ability to contact the artist, this will give audiences to be able to keep updated with the artist. Also, I used images of the artists wearing clothing that will attract C1-A audience. I used a Sans Serif font to appeal to the audience as well.
