Problems to overcome

Some of my actors were busy on days so wasn't able to shoot. To overcome this i planned a production schedule to fit in the actors schedules and be able to have enough time to shoot my video in suitable time slot.

When uploading the music video, it got copyrighted I decided to combat this by embedding the video and sending it off separately.

I wanted to shoot my shots with the three actors together but i felt like ti subverted from my main idea and would take up too much time in the 3 mins allocated time for the music video.

For my website i wanted to have the navigation centre scroll down with the page but was unable to do this due to on the website construction site WIX.

Evaluation

Media Language 

 Media language was successfully included in my media products. Todorov's theory of equilibrium is present in my music video. There are five stages the narrative can progress through. A state of equilibrium (All is as it should be), this occurs when the two friends meet before they get into the car. A disruption of that order by an event, this occurs in my video when the female actor comes into their lives. A recognition that the disorder has occurred, this is when the fight occurs from the two friends. An attempt to repair the damage of the disruption, occurs near the end when the friend meet bump into each other.  A return or restoration of a NEW equilibrium, this occurs in my video  when the two friend goes off with their arms around each other. There is some elements of Barthes enigma code within my video. I wanted to have a classic music video that portrays more of a story. So i used shots consisting of wide and mid but my video was slow paced and had the elements of surprise of whats gonna happen next with the two friends.  Therefore also conforming to Barthes ball of string narrative. The slow pace builds suspense and tension within the narrative. 
In my music video i included a few intertexual links the main one being the classic titanic scene, i included this within my music video with my two friends to have a comedic relief. This also conforms the genre hybridity theory of Neale's. But by having this intertexual link it will entice the audience as they will become engrossed in the video. The other inter-textual link is more subtle but was more significant as it showed friendship between the two characters it was from a scene in Shawshank redemption where one friend is looking up to another. 

Media Representations

I addressed media representation by having both a representation of male and female in the video. The narrative in my story end with boy the male friends chasing the female friend, this conforms to Van Zoonen as the female is presented as a spectacle the two friends almost challenge each other to date her. Thus ending their friendship. Through mise-en-scene due to costume and makeup the actors wearing normal clothing and conforming to the glistening generalities. I also represented different ethnicity in my video. This helped further boost the representations in my media product. However, to improve i could have included a wider range of ethnicity and more female actors to balance the gender ratio. Despite this i successfully portrayed gender, age and different ethnic groups within my video and web page.


Media Industry

In my thorough research I had an idea of how successful music videos are made and how many of them conform to a mixed genre of performance or narrative. I included this by applying more then one type of genre in my music video to accentuate the hybridity (Neale's) . I stuck to my original plan and shot my music video as a narrative telling a story of a friendship and how it came to end. However, i still subverted to some ideas from my storyboards due to certain restrictions but still was able to produce a video of high standards.
Also, i included a strong brand identity throughout all my products. I achieved this by adding my own logo on each of the platforms i produced. This will give audiences an instant link between the product and to the brand.

Media Audience

My target audience for my music video is aged between 15-25 and in the socio economic group C1-A. I feel like that i was successful in reaching my target audience. The actors and actresses that featured in my music video are people who fit in that age range they are all aged between 15-25. As well the clothing my actors/actresses were wearing was appealing to that young audience, i made sure to include tracksuits, jackets. As well the props I used would be interesting for the young audience I used a car to attract the younger audience. However, I appealed to the C1-A audience in few different ways, during the flashbacks i had my actors wear smart clothing to represent them in a more upper class way of life. As well the location for the first scene is set in London and this accentuates the C1-A target audience. In my website I targeted the young audience by linking social media accounts and the ability to contact the artist, this will give audiences to be able to keep updated with the artist. Also, I used images of the artists wearing clothing that will attract C1-A audience. I used a Sans Serif font to appeal to the audience as well.

I chose this person to be in my music video as I decided to have a female representation within my music video. She plays a major role in my video and is the main reason why the two friends ended their relationship. This appeals to the target audience if 15-25 as the female actress fits that age group. As well it appeals to the aspirer, as audiences will watch this and will feel that they are able to engage themselves as the actress is relatable. Also this links to the glistening generalities ideal that as this a normal person, audiences can relate even further. 

I chose this person to be in my music video as he represents a wide range if ethnicities and can further appeal to different ethnic groups. He is one of the two best friends in my music video and plays a significant role in my video. It can appeal to audiences as the actor is a normal person and can feel relatable towards audiences. 

I decided to chose this person to be in my music video as he also represent another ethnic group and also it appeals to the common man which is essential when producing the music video, as I would want it to appeal to everyone. 

Editing. Effects and Treatment

Before 

This video was before the editing, the scene takes place at the beginning of the video and the end. This is where the two friends bump into each other in the future , this scene also initiates the sequence of flashbacks. What i found with this image is that the street lights are too bright and are drawing attention towards it. Also the video itself looked a bit fuzzy so i decided to edit this to make the image more sharpen.  

After

 After the editing, I decided to attempt to dim the lights and keep it lowly saturated so it doesn't take the attention way from the two actors when they come into play. As well after the editing i sharpened the clip it make it look less fuzzy and used different colour schemes to keep it dim.

This shows all the clips i have used in the video and i decided to cut these down to fit the 3 minute target for my video. 

In this clip i used to a split screen to portray the scene with my two actors. What i did was use the original clip and cut half of it to create to separate clips and then i revered it to make a split screen effect. This accentuates the different editing skills within my video. As well instead of using black and white in most of my flashback clips. I decided to keep this in the original colour to give the authenticity in the flashbacks and to use the sun shining to my advantage as it further portrays the emotions of my actors in the video which is happiness. 

In this image it shows an editing style i used to leave effect. In one of the clips in the beginning of my music video, I decided to set the speed to 50% to allow the clip to have slow pace and to make it slow motion. I then timed the pace of the clip to the music and was able to successfully use the drop of the song to effect. 

In this image, i used the transition fade to black to accentuate the seriousness that is occurring at this point in the video. Also this image shows that i used titles to include a credit at the end of my video and as well as my logo at the last clip. 

Here i decided to use an editing technique to have the background in black and white and then have the two friends (Aaron and Wilson) in colour as well have the car in normal colour this is to further accentuate that this is a flashback and also as the scenes went on i decided to use less of the black and white and let it play out in colour.

In these two images i used a full black and white image to fully capture the moment in the flashback.

Logo Design

Design 1 

I prefer design 1 as it promotes the idea i originally had. It links to the idea of being rich and wealthy with the green dollar sign. As well having the buildings on top and below shows the A B socio-economic group i want to promote to. As well as that i made a link to the city by the buildings on top and below the words to represent a more urbanised surroundings and to signify that my artist is for the A B socio group.

Logo Design 2 

This Logo design took inspiration from the first one but i changed it by using Arial font and instead putting the artists name inside the buildings to further accentuate the socio group i am targeting. As well by making the font green, this can signify wealth and money which is what i want my artist to be portraying.

Logo design 3

This logo design is more simplistic, i decided to rotate a dollar sign which represents wealth and money as well and across the dollar sign i wrote the artists name. This is more simplistic but it is still effective and portrays the ideals of my artist.




In the end I've decided to go for logo design 1 as this is far more effective then the other logos and it represents the A B socio economic group perfectly.

Risk Assessment

Camera Equipment

Camera equipment such as tripods and equipment lying around can potentially be a tripping hazard for the public as well as the people involved in the shoot. This has a low severity but can be highly likely if the shoots were to take place during busy periods to avoid this hazard. I will carefully place the equipment in a suitable place. I could also put up a sign to warn the public that a video shoot is occurring so they know to avoid it.

Cars/Safety on the Road

A potential hazard for my video is the safety within cars as a part of my shoot takes place in and around cars. I will have to ensure that roads are empty and also to be completely aware of the surroundings when shooting. I will also ensure to act responsibly and safely around cars and the road. Severity is high whereas the likelihood can be low.

Public Spaces

A hazard could be public spaces i will need to ensure that i am not an obstruction to the public, to avoid this i could talk to different members of the public to tell them what is going on and so how can it be avoided.

Weather

If it is raining a potential hazard could be slip hazards as well as when transporting equipment, the severity is relative low but can be highly likely to avoid this i will check the weather updates to plan my shoot around it. Severity is low but the likelihood is quite high.

I then conducted a survey to find the best possible name. I cut down the mind map to three names that i preferred and then sent out the survey to 6 different people to find their favourite one. From the research i was able to find out that Khalifa$ was the most popular name so i used this information to my advantage and applied the logo throughout my music video.

• In the first 5 seconds, it shows a close-up shot zoom on a red box, the man goes onto opening the box to reveal belongings from a war veteran showing old pictures, dog tags and medals this suggests that the man who owned the red box has died and the person opening it is a close one reminiscing.  The close up keeps zooming in until it fades away to represent a flashback.

• Shows a closeup of a kid riding a red bicycle, the close up is particularly zoomed in on the wheel of the bike which shows a picture that was found in the red box. The colour Red has already played significant part throughout this music video,  both the bike and box was in a vibrant red. This can signify the idea of love and lust as well as blood and violence, which ties in with the music video as it is about brotherly love who have both been affected by war in the future. This shot was set as a clear flashback to show the man reminiscing.

Textual Analysis music video 2

Preliminary Task- Group video- Massive Attack

This preliminary task was conducted by my group and we chose the song Massive Attack to practise our video editing, camerawork , planning and production. This was to be used in our own music videos that we will later produce.

Overall the preliminary task was a success I learned some basic editing skills on Adobe Premiere Pro. I was able to practise different transitions and effects within the preliminary task. Also i was able to put different clips together to make the video come together.

To improve for next time, i will concentrate to have a steady camera as in the preliminary task there were some scenes with the camera shaking. To improve this i will use a tripod and a steads-cam to improve the quality of my video.
As well i will use my time to plan more efficiently and try utilise my time more. During the planning i will attempt to plan the costumes, props and locations for my own video.
When editing i will attempt to expand my skills this will come with try and error as well as practise.
